Introduction

        Asalamualaikum and good day to whoever reading this. So, here is a quick introduction about me. Hi, my name is Amir Firdaus Bin Abdul Hadi and I am currently undergoing a degree in Data Science in University Malaya. As of writing this, I am in my second semester of my first year. And one of the subjects that I took is Social Engagement GIG1005 that leads to the creation of this blog as a journal for the mentioned subject. Not to mention that this is my first time blogging experience.    

Week 1 - 11/03/2021

            This is the first week of my enrollment to second semester and I have no idea what I am going to learn in Social Engagement subject. Apparently, the subject is divided according to individual course department. The one who will be our instructor is Dr. Azah Anir Binti Norman. She will handling two departments, Information Systems and Data Science. So, the class will be a big class. 

            Because of this is a compulsory university course, the spectrum page for this GIG1005 subject is packed with other departments that it could be annoying to find the one for my department. Fortunately, Dr. Azah put up a cute sign to make it easy for us to spot our class link.
  

        So, for the first class, Dr. Azah asked us to introduce ourselves to get know each other. But because there are too many students, it hard to remember them all. After that, she gave us the details about the subject and how it will be conduct. Social Engagement is basically a subject that gives us platform to do some sort of volunteering activities to communities outside of UM. I haven't done many volunteering activities before so this might be an opportunity to experience it. And to my notice, the volunteering is about teaching others( mostly people younger than us i.e. primary school) about something related to our studies. It might be a bit challenging for me as I personally don't know how to handle children 😓. And again, it is an opportunity for me to experience it. So, that's that and that's it for the first week! 👋

Amir's Transformative Journal: The Event

The Webinar (17 April 2021)      Today is the day for our first launch of our programme and we start it off with a Webinar session! Learn Computer Science Without Computer is our main theme of the project. For the webinar, we invited 2 panelists to give a talk. Panelist 1 is Dr. Mas Sahidayana Mokhtar, a senior lecturer in University of Malaya and Panelist 2 is our own lecturer, Dr. Azah Anir Norman to give a speech herself to the newly registered participants which consists of secondary students and some primary students.      Even though there are many students registered, it was actually not as much as we expected. But, we took what we can get for the time being. Because the platform of we are using is Microsoft Teams, there were some technical difficulties faced by the participants as not all of them have Microsoft accounts.
